Little Moments - Spinach

I've talked about Lynn before. He is my adopted grandfather who is an amazing gardener and happens to live next door. He dropped off a big bag of fresh spinach for me. It's like a little bundle of happiness.

Summer Concert Series

My city is putting on a free concert series this summer. Every other weekend a different local band performs. Russ and I got some diner from Cafe Rio and enjoyed the first concert together. The weather was perfect and it was a small crowd. It was the perfect atmosphere with kids playing in the water and the sun setting in the background. Great was to start a weekend.

Little Moments - Wildflowers

I remember poppies all over the place in California when I was growing up, since they are the state flower.  When we came to look at this property last year, half the yard was dead but there were some poppies. I remember joking around that it was a sign I was going to get the house.

This year, with the yard actually getting watered, the poppies are beautiful and I have roses growing wild against the north fence line.

Jackson's Spring Band Concert

Jackson loved his first year in band, especially being in percussion.  I'm so thankful he got one of the six spots available.

Throughout the year he learned how to read music and play; the base drum, snare drum, timpani drum, bells, xylophone, tambourine, wood block, temple block, cow bell, sleigh bells, symbols and tam-tam (gong).

5th grade is when music is first taught with instruments (other than the recorder). This was the last concert of the year and I was amazed how much these kids learned in just a single year.

The six boys got to rotate playing different instruments throughout the various school performances. He had the most fun playing the snare drum, bells and temple block. Dragon Slayer was Jackson's favorite song of this concert but he said Batter Up was the most fun to play.

Mother's Day

My kids made me crepes (one of my favorites) for breakfast on Mother's Day. I loved the addition of the tea light candles around the table. It very sweet... and delicious.
I was so excited when Russ and the kids told me my Mother's Day gift was a shopping spree at the nursery! I had been clearing out the garden area in front of my house and was looking forward to filling it with beautiful color.

I chose a semi-dwarf Pear tree, and a mix of perennials that will give color thought the year.  It will only get better with time as everything starts to fill in.

The other exciting part of the weekend is that is was finally warm enough to plant our seedlings outside! We filled out garden area in the back yard and even planted in the front between the flowers.
