Grandma's Soup

A few weeks ago, we made homemade Chicken Noodle Soup for dinner on our family night, in honor of Grandma Madsen since it was her birthday. The kids and I made the noodles together but when they weren't looking I made some heart shape noodles. They enjoyed finding the special hearts as we were eating together.

Magic Tooth Fairy

Throughout the last school year, Jackson had been saying all his friends have lost teeth except for him. I guess it's a case of be careful what you wish for because he just lost this 3rd tooth since school has started this year! He put his tooth under his pillow and when he woke up early in the morning it was still there. I reassured him that the tooth fairy knows what time he usually wakes up and not to worry because they were probably on their way. I told him it would be best to try and go back to sleep. I poked my head in his doorway about an hour later and he was still awake when I told him it was time to get up.  He checked under his pillow one more time as he got up to get ready for school. To his surprise there was $2 and some gold fairy dust!!  Jackson figures the Tooth Fairy had to use magic since he was awake. His best guess is the magic dust made the tooth fairy invisible so he couldn't see them, or that it made him fall asleep for a few seconds while they took the tooth and left the money.

Bountiful Basket

This weeks Bountiful Basket:

  • Head of Lettuce
  • bag of Green Beans
  • 7 Yams
  • 1 Yellow Squash
  • 5 Tomatoes
  • 2 English Cucumbers
  • 1 Pineapple
  • 6 Green Apples
  • 8 Bananas
  • Black Seedless Grapes
  • 6 Pears
  • Black Berries
We skipped getting a basket last week because we still had so much food. I made my second batch of homemade apple sauce this week since we were overloaded with apples, yummy. We had some cucumber sandwiches too but still have quite a few left so I will probably try a few different cucumber salad recipes I've found. I might try and pickle some!

Fall Family Night

Our Family night last week was so much fun. We raked the leaves in the front yard into a big pile just so the kids can jump & play in them. Then we mixed up some cupcake batter and while they were in the oven we went outside to decorate the house for Halloween. After decorating outside we came back inside and decorated our cupcakes then delivered them to neighbors.

Bountiful Basket

This mornings basket:
  • 2 bunches of Onions
  • 1 bunch of Broccoli
  • 4 Cucumbers
  • 3 Squash
  • 4 Tomatoes
  • 1 head of Lettuce (not in picture)
  • 1 Cantaloupe
  • 3 Pomegranates
  • 7 Oranges
  • 9 Bananas
  • 9 Apples
  • Green Seedless Grapes

This last week was great. We baked roasted garlic cauliflower and it was absolutely delicious! Ashleigh and I ate the entire bunch for dinner one night. I have never liked cauliflower in my entire life so I was shocked when it was so good! I was planning on making Ratatouille with our eggplant and zucchini & watching the movie Ratatouille for our family night but I couldn't get my hands on the movie in time. I didn't want the eggplant to go bad so I ended up frying it & topping with mozzarella melted on top and it was yummy! I will have to save my Ratatouille idea for next time. I made sautéed apples for dessert one night and added figs & chopped walnuts.  I have apples coming out my ears now since we got 9 more in our basket this morning. I feel a pie coming up this week and maybe some apple sauce.

I would have to say the meal that stole the show for the week was Chicken Cordon Bleu. It was amazing! The cream sauce was to die for. Ashleigh said it was better than any Chicken Cordon Bleu she'd had in restaurants and I would have to agree. We paired it with broccoli and garlic bread. Through out the meal, our dining room was filled with sounds of "mmmm" "ahhhh" and "oh my goodness"... it was THAT good.

Bountiful Basket

There was a new location this week, even closer to our house! It's just right down the street and it's indoors! It will be so nice since it will be getting cold soon. This weeks basket included:

  • Lettuce
  • Celery
  • 3 Red bell peppers
  • 2 Artichokes
  • 1 bag of Carrots
  • 3 Tomatoes
  • 6 Bananas
  • Strawberries
  • Cantaloupe
  • Green seedless grapes
  • 8 Apples
  • 11 Kiwi
Ashleigh loves both Artichokes and Kiwi, so she was extra excited this week. This last week we did some sir fry with our veggies over rice and used the apples for some desserts. The peaches were absolutely amazing after letting them ripen a few days. I'm looking forward to some great meals this week. I have some fun ideas. I will write about them later and try and post some pictures too.
