The joys of a simple box

Charsty wrote a blog about the fun of a simple cardboard box. It reminded me of some pictures I took of Jackson a few months ago.

I was remodeling the kid's bathroom last fall and Jackson loved the big boxes from the vanity & toilet. He played in them, ate snacks in them & did his homework in the box every single day for about two weeks.

We've all heard about kids getting a nice toy and end up playing with the box. There really is something special about a cardboard box, it's like a blank canvas for the imagination. I remember playing with my little brother for hours with our creations.  We moved from California to Utah when I was little. That, of course, resulted in an entire house worth of empty cardboard boxes at our disposal. We had an empty basement and a hundred boxes...and we made a masterpiece. It was wall to wall boxes. Rooms, corridors, secret passages, furniture...it was elaborate. We played in that cardboard mansion off and on for months with our new friends.

I remember another time, we had one large box and turned it into a space ship. We poked holes in the side of the box and inserted tiny lights from a string of Christmas lights, drew buttons, levers & added various electronic pieces to look like a real cockpit. Or at least what we thought the cockpit of a spaceship should look like. Haha.
